The movements of Daito-ryu are based on the movements of Kenjutsu. Some Aiki Jujutsuka also study Onoha Itto-ryu (Takeda-ha) as an adjunct to the study of Aiki Jujutsu technique. It is understood that much of the taisabaki (body movement) and foot work is directly drawn from kenjutsu.

Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu (大東流合気柔術?), originally called Daitō-ryū Jujutsu (大東流柔術, Daitō-ryū Jūjutsu?), is a Japanese martial art that first became widely known in the early 20th century under the headmastership of Takeda Sokaku.
Although it is often said that Daito-ryu looks unrefined or is lacking in magnificence, Daito-ryu also has a component called aiki no jutsu (fifty-three techniques) and they are truly wonderful. The aiki no jutsu techniques come after the 118 hiden mokuroku , and they are followed by the hiden ogi , the hiogi , the kaishaku soden , and finally the kaiden techniques.

As many of you know I have made many trips to Japan to study Daito Ryu Aiki Jujutsu with my teacher Kondo Katsuyuki Sensei. This year it was the 60th Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu Headquarters convention and was held in Abashiri, Hokkaido.
